Some of you get here following links from other blogs, or you know me in real life or through friends or online. A lot of people get here through google “how to live in a van,” “how to shave pussy like a stripper,” “hobo sex,” “stripper pee live,” “change water pump,” “nettles allergies,” or the ever popular “sex in the champagne room.”
Some of you comment and I know that you’re van dwellers, strippers, anarcho-primitivists, herbalists, clients of the sex trade, writers, and catholic school teachers. But that accounts for, like, twenty of you. That leaves six or seven hundred unaccounted for.
So especially if I don’t know who you are, but even if I do cause it’s good to know these things all together, please leave a comment and let me know who you are and why you read here.
I found this website researching hoboes. I am a regular attendee of the National Hobo Convention, held each year in rural Iowa.
My work is in autism. In the field of autism a lot of the things that you talk about here are discussed in a very different perspective (boundaries, sex, inappropriate stripping, etc.) It’s interesting to see how in a complete different field (stripping) similar topics can be talked about.
well hello there hobostripper:
thanks for asking! I am brand new to yr blog. I came here on the recommendation of another fave blogger, one ms. susie bright. And now I am definitely hooked on yr writing and hope to visit here often to read what you have to say.
I’m interested in women writing about their experiences of sex and sex work, and I’m a big fan of AAG and Chelsea Girl, who I also read regularly. I’m definitely a feminist, but I’m also an herbalist, and an anarchist, so I appreciate reading what you have to say about those topics, too.
I also love your “Stripping 101” pieces, thanks for putting that out there. I’ve always wondered how one breaks into the biz, and about the protocols of the clubs, etc. Reading your articles made me feel like I could really try stripping, something I’ve always wanted to do. Although I think I’m probably too old now (41) and I live in a city with plenty of strippers already (Portland). But hey! I have all my teeth, I’m in shape, and I can dance. What do you think??
Anyway, I really enjoy your stories and your perspective, please keep writing, and thanks for sharing with us.
Hi,
I’m Jill and I’m not any of the things you listed. π Susie Bright raved about you one day and I’ve been reading since.
I’m a feminist and I really like to be outside. Your blog touches on nifty outside things, interesting female things, and even some crafty/diy things so I enjoy it.
I’ll answer questions if you’ve got any but mostly I just wanted to say hi and that I enjoy reading you.
I found your site while scrolling blogs. I thought the name stripper Hobo was interesting so I thought I’d check it out. I’m amazed a woman would live in a van. Not sure why, but I am so that’s why I keep coming back to see what will happen next π
I used to read you when you lived in a house then the bus and now again π I lost you for a while on the bus but have found you again now.
Hello! I found your website last week from a link on Susie Bright’s blog. I tried stripping in college, and I’m currently in grad school. You are a great writer and I’m interested in what you have to say, so that’s why I read your blog. I don’t know anything about Alaska or van living, and only a little about stripping, so I’m interested. Plus I like your layout and pictures. Overall, I like your whole website. So, thank you!
I “know” you from SW. I used to work for a lady that made stripper costumes many many years ago. I mostly did beading and sequins. I’m an aging hippy that lives in Seattle and am currently owned by one cat.
nineteen year old queer girl living in a punk house in seattle. I have been trying to find my niche in the sex work world (hopefully to fund extensive traveling), but most end up reading anything and everything about it, especially from radicals like yourself. formerly a zine librarian, currently a maid.
I think I originally found you through googling something along the line of “how to live in a van” a few months ago. I’m 22 and living in my parents basement – I need to move out, and living in a van and travelling around is something I am interested in so I read your blog. Thanks for having it.
Tara:
I became familiar with your blog through the vandwelling site.
I am currently living in the Chihuahuan Desert not far from Terlingua.
If you ever make it to West Texas, I’d love to meet you.
Found your blog via Susie Bright’s blog.
I learned about your awesome blog from my friend Mitcz. He had written one of his “links you should check out” blogs and you were mentioned. After reading your “about you” section I knew I would be back reading daily. Thanks for sharing your adventures! If ya ever make it to Long Beach Calif. I would love to meet you.
I found you through the Susun Weed forum.
I moved from Toronto to Northern Ontario last year where I am starting up a eco-shop and a holistic healing business. I am a former whore (but always will be one a heart! lol) and am a member of Sex Professionals of Canada.
Syllabus:
Tree-hugger, pagan, activist, pan-sexual, Canadian, whore, feminist.
I came across a link to your site while looking at the Wendy usually wanders blog.
I have been reading it every since :>

I found you on SW. I’m a stripper in Portland, OR.
You got a mention for your great writing and unique perspective on Nerve.com.
I discovered you through Susie Bright’s recommendation, and have stuck around for your interesting writing and experiences π
I’m a kiwi polyamorous pansexual sex-blogger, just so you know!
xx Dee
I know I got here from a link on someone’s blog but I really don’t remember anymore. I’m a writer, German-American, living in Spain.
I came to your blog from reading Susie Bright’s. I put the url in my google blog reader so that I can read whenever updated π sometimes your stories really do make my day more interesting so thanks!
Actually, my mother found your blog and recommended it to me as being a sort of feminist Jack Kerouac but with better writing. I couldn’t pass up that recommendation.
I found you, like others, via Susie Bright (who I adore!) and figured that if she liked YOU, I would like YOU too! And so far, after a few bits of reading you, I do like you, too! π Now you’re a permanent fixture in my RSS reader.
I think I found you via the Susan Weed forum.
On the outside,I’m just an average, boring, housewife stuck in the suburbs in the Midwest.
I am a 43 year old woman living on the Coast. I have been married to the best man in the world for 25 years. We have an amazing 20 year old daughter. I am an artist for love and a realtor for money. I am utterly hooked on your blog. Your writing allows me a window into a world and people I would otherwise never meet. Thank you, and keep writing please!
Just a suburban mom in Texas. I enjoy reading about your travels and job.
Hi there! I found your blog through a recommendation at another blog a few weeks ago, and I’ve been reading happily since then.
well you were building this blog while you were at my apartment in april after we came back from snow camping in NM! I read cause I like to hear what is up with my friend, learning about van living (not so far off for me!) and all about alaska, (again hopefully not so far off!!)
Wavies from shamana flora!
I’m one of the few privileged folk to know you in-person. π And, if I’m lucky, I’ll get to spend more time with you in the future.

I found your website totally randomly – I think I followed a link from the New Shelton Wet/Dry to another page that linked to here about a couple of months ago. I’m a mom in Minneapolis with a corporate job – but I’m also very interested in herbs, and in survivalist-types who manage to make it through the world without accumulating so much stuff. I also very much enjoy the sex-positive aspect to your blog. Any one of these three things would be enough to interest me in a blog, but you’ve got them all!
I’m a sex-obsessed crippled chick stuck living with my parents in the midwest. Our everyday lives couldn’t be more different, and I dig that. I also found my way here thanks to Susie Bright.
Hi! I found from a comment you made in Mistress Matisse’s blog. I like your outlook on life, and you style. Keep up the good work, and stay warm!
Hi!
I found you because the Nondual Highlights included a piece of your writing. (In case for some reason you hadn’t seen that, it’s here: http://www.nonduality.com/hl2848.htm.)
I used to be a stripper myself so I love reading your work stories; and I always wanted, but was never brave enough, to be a hobo.
By following your links page, I’ve also begun reading Mistress Matisse and Tasty Trixie and Dominatrix Next Door on a daily basis. You’ve corrupted me; I hope you’re happy. And speaking of happy, I was reminded of your blog the other day when my fortune cookie gave me this: ‘What makes a man happy makes him wise.’

I too found your blog through Susie BrightΓ’β¬β’s blog. I read you because your life is so vastly different from my own, and a different perspective is always refreshing, and sometimes enlightening.
Thanks.
Nerve.com led me to you, you’re writing, spirit and adventures keep me. I live in Chicago am 25 and thrive on contradictions, idealism and the support I get from my friends and lovers. I am a kick ass pixiegrrl and I haven’t been able to get the piece you did for Gaia’s Gifts blog party out of my head for almost a week. You inspire me.
i am a 55 year old male stuck in the midwest. i follow your story for the stripper/sex aspect as well as your hippie lifestyle that reminds me of my youth when i spent ten years in idaho over 30 years ago.i even had a 1967 vw van that i drove back and forth across the country. besides all this, you write well and are interesting. i found you thru sw. thank you!
I’m one of your Catholic school teachers … π
I’m a friend of Hatma’s, who told me about you years ago and kept bugging me until I broke down, put down Dante’s Inferno, and picked up on your excellent prose, Tara.
I love women, nature, and naked natural women, BUT I’m not a feminist, I’ve never embraced a tree, and I’ve never been paid to take my clothes off … but as my ass is right now, I’ll bet there’s people who’d pay me to leave them on!
I love Tara’s writing, perspective, candor, and tone. I also love Bukowski, and Tara has a certain vaginal, Chinaski-flare going on sometimes. I made that up, by the way.
I read good writers of all stripes – and Tara has earned hers. I bet that bear she met last week is thanking his maker she didn’t kick his ass.
Thanks, Tara. You’ve got the write stuff.
I found you through Susie Bright’s website. I’m a 32-year old history teacher and aspiring/lazy writer on the Atlantic coast of Florida. You’ve got some sort of joie-de-vivre.
I’m a stripper. Found your blog through stripperweb and other stripperwebbers blog links. I actually posted a link to your blog article on wage slavery on my blog last week, which may have accounted for a 200 hit spike one day. I always wanted to travel around the country and strip in different cities…but for now I’m stuck in suburban Phoenix with a husband and 8 “kids” of the canine, feline, and lagomorph variety. We could swing the travel with one or two dogs, but cats and rabbits don’t travel well. You should nominate yourself (or I’ll do it) for the bloggers choice awards http://www.bloggerschoiceawards.com/ You’ve got my vote! (but then you’ll have to vote for me too…it takes a few days for your blog to be okayed)
I found you via my friend Violet (who commented above). I used to have a roommate who was a stripper, so it’s interesting to see where the tales are similar.
I did some vehicle living in college. I wish I had done a lot more. Now I’m older, do a ton of camping but can’t wander the way you get to do. I don’t remember if it was Tioga George, Wandering Wendy or Heather’s World that sent me here. I really enjoy the combination of sort of alternative people watching/amateur psychoanalysis/philosophy that you do. I do a lot of it myself.
Why am I here? Why is blue?
π
Originally, I clicked your link on VanDwellers out of curiousity but now I follow to see what the heck you’re up to. Your blog is inspiring.
I’m 50, did the whole “wife, 2.4 kids, mortgage” thing. Now my dog and I are on disabilty, living in a one room apartment and loving life a hell of a lot more. Too much crap in this apartment still. I’m working on living conciously for a change.
I followed a link from Nerve expecting… something totally different than what I got. Instead of a quick glance at the page, I ended up spending several hours reading your archives and immediately put you on my “blogs to keep up with” list. π
I’m just your basic purple-haired hippie housewife sort of person with a lust for the open road and an interest in herbalism. I’ve never stripped, and after two kids I’m pretty sure it’s not going to ever happen! But I love the way you tell your stories. So, I’ll be around.
Fellow stripper here – found you on the pink site.
I’m Ethan, 30-year-old Seattle-dwelling programmer who loves camping, plants and the idea of caribou sausage. I believe I found your site linked from a Sugasm feature.
Found you from SW.(the pink site)
i just have to read each day to see what you have been up to and your perspective on life. It kinda reminds me of the 5 years i spent bumming my way around the world, and your blog helps to satisfy the itchy feet syndrome in me a bit.
I, too, found you via Susie Bright.
I am a 30 year old who feels like I have gotten trapped and caged in my civilization much of the time. I spend my days at a desk job, reading and writing legal papers (I am a lawyer). Much of the time, I dream of being able to buck the entire system live on the road. Other times, I am happy where I am. I am interested in edible plants, and follwed a few blogs, and then came across one entitled “hobostripper.” I read it and am facinated. I enjoy reading about yoru perspective in life.
I’m an angry stripper, from Detroit, city proper. I can’t remember if I found you through stripperweb or divebardancer. I’m 24 years old. I’m double-majoring in journalism and urban studies. I love this blog!
There’s actually an organization called the “Detroit Social Van Club” here in the city. They have awesome parties.
Bookish and bitter ex-stripper over here. Can’t remember how I found you, but you remind me of a girl I worked with in Memphis, and you’re interests are eclectic enough to keep me entertained!
I’m a pasty white veal calf in a big cubicle farm in Chicago, with a boring job that leaves lots of time to read blogs. My wife appears to have lost her interest in me (or never had it in the first place), so I have that itch that men get. I struggle with it almost constantly. So, since I don’t have the time or money to go to strip clubs (and I’m not sure it would help), I read blogs by strippers. This one is easily among the best. It’s well written and so much more interesting than the usual ecdysiast dramatics. I love all the stories about Alaska, Bro, plants, enjoying and appreciating nature, and living in a van. Stories about nekkid chicks are cool, too, but it’s not everything. Thanks for your blog. If you ever come my way, I’m going to try to get out and give you money.
Nerve. I don’t have a van, but I love strippers and your charming lifestyle. I enjoy peaking at the life of others. Keep writing π
