Craziest link to me ever

This has to be the craziest link to me ever. She’s some kinda serious patriarchal monothiest, and she’s writing a post explaining that “wanking is bad.” As evidence of this she quotes what I said about masturbation a while back and then explains that masturbation is bad because condoms lead to casual sex. Also, it’s narcissism. (Actually, I highly recommend a certain level of narcissism, but that’s a post for another day.)

Anyways, check it out. You have to scroll down to June 5, I can’t figure out how to direct link to it.

  1. Actually, her silly post is July 5th, not June 5th.
And I feel sorry for a woman who is so invested in not wanking _and_ in convincing other folks not to! What’s that H.L. Menkin like about Puritanism? Something about the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be having fun?

Shoot, I only want people to refrain from wanking _while_ they are calling me, ostensibly to book a (proDomme) session. I usually politely tell them that it sounds as though they are busy, and they should call back when they are through. 😉

  2. Tata, go to her sidebar “previous posts” and klick on the post you want and it will come up as the URL you are looking for.

  3. Tara, go to her sidebar “previous posts” and click on the post you want and it will come up as the URL you are looking for.

    Yes, but why?

  5. Her writing is positively baroque. Honestly, I thought the words were gibberish holding places for text at first glance.

And secondly…what an obscure reference to make a cogent doctrinal point?? Bizarre.

But hey, you’re read Down Under! That’s cool.

  6. You guys. Don’t go to her blog and be mean to her. She’s not hurting anyone, she’s just being the way she wants to be. Seriously. Don’t click on my links and be mean to people.

    Louise, I’m sorry.

  7. Tara, your writing and honesty is a breath of fresh air. 🙂 🙂 Sadly, “Louise” reminds me of how far we have to go… 🙁

  8. Actually, Emily, my name is Louise, not “Louise.”

I’d also like to know what you mean by “how ar we have to go.” Do you mean “how far we have to go to make everyone else think the same as us”? Do you mean “how far we have to go to completely destroy the Christian heritage of the West”? What do you actually mean? Or are too busy feeling superior to people who think differently to be able to articulate your reasons for believing as you do?

Thankyou Hobo Stripper for your kindness and while I disagree with you on this and other issues, that doesn’t mean I think badly of you personally and I’m sorry if that’s the impression I created.

    Her writing is positively baroque.

    Thanks for that great compliment!

And thankyou for noticing that I was making a cogent doctrinal point. Why was my reference obscure? And how can a cogent doctrinal point remotely resemble gibberish? I am at a loss.

  9. My latter remark was addressed to Tamara, in case that’s not obvious.

Look, really, if anyone has an honest argument to make with me that’s fine, but please stop with the “Oh my God she’s so dumb,” schtick and the pretend compassion, “I’m so sorry for you.” It’s very tedious.

In case I fell under that too, I wanted to apologise. I was honestly surprised, the only place I ever read about masturbation being a bad thing was when kids asked about it in teen magazine advice columns. In school, we were told it’s ok and it’s healthy.

But then again, we’re not religious. Though even the friends of mine who are, masturbate. Depends on the level of conviction, I guess.

  11. louise, i don’t feel you’ve proven your point at all. you give no evidence or even logical argument that masturbation is unhealthy. most people don’t fantasize about “babies” and “octopuses” at all.

masturbation is a healthy way for us to explore our bodies and psychologies so that we can determine what pleases us sexually. Pleasure is very good for us- so so so so so good for us. Not all pleasure is bad or leads to bad things that hurt people and ourselves.

Is it narcissistic to eat, to breathe, to love? Nothing is more unhealthy than self-denial. Repressed sexualities will only lead to dangerous behaviors. Like an untreated wound, it will fester until you cannot control it.

Louise, I pray that you learn to accept your sexuality and to masturbate with joy and while you are masturbating and enjoying the holy miracle of your body, I hope you cry and feel God’s love all through you and I pray it helps you to realize that God is good and the Body is Holy and pleasure can be fun and healthy and innocent- guilt free. If we all found more pleasure in our bodies and in each other we wouldn’t have this evil trainwreck of a dominant culture that has turned us all into unfeeling unhappy consumers.

    Louise, repeat after me:

    sex is good.
    pleasure is good.
    the body is holy.
    pleasure is my birthright.

  12. Davka,

I did not ever state, nor do I believe that sex is bad. I believe masturbation is bad. Please try to see that those two statements are not the same. Commenters here really are too free with your assumptions.

Pleasure is not anyone’s “birthright.” It happens to be a very happy side effect of havign been created by a good and loving God. If God gives us pleasures, why should we not enjoy those same pleasures according to His rules?

I may not have given “evidence” for my beliefs, but I have given a credible argument if you can see what I was saying.

One thing I was *not* saying is that it is normal for people to fantasise about particularly evil things while masturbating. If people do fantasise about evil things, then masturbating while having these thoughts will reinforce those things. I will say, though, that I think most people probably do struggle with thoughts that are pretty distorted (though not necessarily evil, like the woman who fantasised about swimming in a pool of disembodied penises). I don’t thinks that’s evil, I just think it’s weird. But there are many fantasies that normal people do have which would really not be acceptable behaviour if indulged in in mainstream society.

Obviously, we need to breathe and eat etc. An overindulgence in eating is gluttonous and *may* lead to ill health, so obviously there is a limit on that pleasure.

I don’t think self-denial is at all unhealthy. I regularly feel angry with people, but surely it is right and good to control my temper by not hitting them etc. What’s unhealthy about that. (It would be unhealthy to pretend I am not angry, but I’m not advocating that).

Repressed sexualities will only lead to dangerous behaviors.

Yes, but I am not advocating repression. See my note on anger. There is a difference between self denial and repression.

I pray that you learn to accept your sexuality

Your arrogance is astonishing! I do not believe that masturbation is good. Doesn’t mean I am incomplete sexually. I am a wife to a very good man, after all. But pray for me, by all means – that is sincerely most welcome.

Red, I am not a puritan, I am a Catholic and there *is* a difference.

  13. Was’nt calling you personally a puritan just the way you worded your post no offence intended.

  14. Glitz – no worries. It may not be much talked about, but I assure you, there are more people in the world than just me who think as I do on this matter.

15To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Great quote Davka, I suppose then Paul means that, say, murder is pure and incest is pure and torture is pure…

Even the devil can quote scripture (not saying that you are even remotely like the devil, however), so I’m not much impressed really. Understanding scripture is a big help and highly recommended before quoting it at people to make dubious assertions.

Red, I’m not offended and if I were, then too bad. I wrote my post knowing it would cause a stir (should anyone read it) so I take to heart the adage, “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” I just wanted you to know that there is a difference between Catholics and puritans. I’d genuinely like to know what was puritan about my post.

  15. uhhh. the whole idea that touching your self is a sin for starters. Personally if we where too busy “wanking off” we would’nt have time for war  we would be too busy enjoying ourselves , what do you all think “masturbate for peace”. Would be great for us guys because after having an orgasm we have the urge to raid the fridge and go to sleep, can’t fight if we are stuffing our face’s or snoozing huh?
OK now I am way off track…lol

  16. okay, well, I didn’t say that “touching yourself” is a sin, only the deliberate manipulation of sex organs is a sin. Again, there is a difference.

Are you seriously trying to suggest that all the wars of history including the biggest, most bloody wars of the 20th C occurred because men were *not* masturbating? Sorry, that just doesn’t seem plausible.

  17. If you believe points based on religious faith, there is no proving your point to those who don’t share your faith. Similarly since I don’t have your faith I don’t have any good rebuttal to your statements that I disagree with.

Any arguments other than God, are sort of irrelevant in this argument. And it is my impression that cosmological beliefs are a creative choice. There is nothing to argue that has any more weight than red versus green unless we agree on underlying points.

It is interesting, and sometimes a bit jarring to be confronted by other people’s cosmology but it is also an opportunity to not be defensive and to get to know each other better.

Louise, if you are still checking this, I hope that not masturbating makes you a better and more fulfilled Christian.

Tara and the rest of the heathens, I hope your masturbation fills you with the joy of your existence and reinforces whatever you are trying to do with yourself.

  18. I wish I’d read this earlier.

Louise, first of all, I didn’t visit your blog and post mean comments. I wouldn’t do that, nor do I have the time in which to do so. My main complaint was the lack of a formative argument with your writing style, and a choice of words which did not seem to align contextually with Standard English in the way I understand it. That…and when you chose to make a point about a tenet of your particular brand of Catholicism, you solicited a seemingly exaggerated view from your own; even “baroque.” Baroque, in the common vernacular, means “exaggerated,” dear.

I understand that Tara can take care of herself, but I couldn’t help calling a spade a spade.

  19. I didn’t visit your blog and post mean comments.

Tamara, did I say you did?

Baroque, in the common vernacular, means “exaggerated,” dear.

How bizarre. But not all of us speak US English, dear.

My main complaint was the lack of a formative argument with your writing style, and a choice of words which did not seem to align contextually with Standard English in the way I understand it.

And this is your definition of “gibberish” is it? Curious.

That…and when you chose to make a point about a tenet of your particular brand of Catholicism, you solicited a seemingly exaggerated view from your own; even “baroque.”

I’m not entirely sure this sentence makes sense itself, actually. However, I’d just like to point out that “my particular brand” of Catholicism just is plain Catholicism. The catechism clearly states that masturbation is wrong. Catholics who disagree with this are the ones with an alternate “brand.”

I think I made some pretty valid points in my original post, Tamara, sorry if it wasn’t quite up to PhD standards, but I’m pretty pushed for time myself.
